“As a team, we were delighted to have been finalists within the ‘Small Business Category’ for this year’s awards. However to discover that we were the “Overall Business Winners” at the end of the evening was totally overwhelming.
Since establishing the business three and a half years ago, I have nurtured and watched our service grow quite considerably and the hardest thing has always been to maintain the standard of care we set that I have always felt is crucial to the success of our business. As a result bringing in passionate staff members that are able to maintain the standards we achieve along the way has been the key. The credit that we receive is totally down to the team of staff members within the organisation.
Hearing Edd Frost & Daughters name mentioned with the likes of Hawkins and John Nichols was certainly a proud moment and one that still hasn’t quite sunk in. Being a “Banbury-Boy” these are long-standing businesses that have been in our town for many years. We very much hope to continue to build upon the important service that we provide and further create and establish as good a name as these other Banbury companies.
We are overwhelmed to be part of such a highly regarded group of businesses within Banbury and incredibly proud to fly the Cherwell Business Awards flag for 2017”

Winner of the Established Business Award sponsored by Spratt Endicott
“We are thrilled to have been chosen as winners of the Spratt Endicott Established Business Award.
Historically, we haven’t entered ourselves for many awards, but earlier this year we were shortlisted finalists for the BMN Awards, which are our industry Oscars, and this had a feel-good effect on the whole business. When we heard about the Cherwell Business Awards, we felt that after the last couple of exceptional years trading, this would be a great way of recognising this success within the local area, so we should put an entry in.
Pulling together the entry was fairly straightforward, as the content was all about things that we refer to as part of running the business everyday, backed up by some numbers. When we had our visit from the judges, we wanted to show what we had achieved in the last 12 months, so took Jane and Julia to see our supersite at Bicester – they could then experience first-hand some of the things we had talked about in our entry, rather than just have a question and answer session at head office. I think this really helped us because it meant that Jane and Julia got to see the business operating and got to meet more of our fantastic team, who are the reason we are successful.
When we got notified that we had been selected as one of the three finalists we were delighted, and to actually win the award against two other really strong businesses made for a fantastic evening on Friday. We posted our success on our Facebook account on Friday night, and this has had over 6,000 views! On the Monday following the Awards, we sent out a special edition of our newsletter to all our staff and everybody in the business has a smile on their face, reflecting the pride we all feel that we have won this award.”

It has given us great confidence and reinforced our motivation to keep thinking outside the box, and press on with our ambitious growth plans.
The evening was fantastic, well organised and a lot of fun. The networking opportunity and free flow of ideas and recommendations was such a positive part of the experience.

Winner of the Employer of the Year Award sponsored by NatWest
“Hawkins Group of Companies Ltd are extremely honoured to have been chosen as the winner of the Employer of the Year at the 2017 Cherwell Business Awards.
To be up against two amazing and very worthy companies who were also nominated for this award, we felt honoured to be announced as the winners. It truly is a great celebration of our workplace and our employees.
Something that truly touched all of us was the acceptance speech given by Mechelle Harris of The Hummingbird Centre (who won the Michael Page Charity & Community Award). We all felt humbled to be in the company of such an inspirational group of people and we are proud to be associated with the Cherwell Business Awards and the fact it recognises all areas of business from Beauty to Construction to Charity led organisations.
We would like to thank NatWest for sponsoring the award and all of the organisers for such a fantastic evening at a stunning venue.”
Mike Hawkins, MD. Hawkins Group
Winner of the New Business Award sponsored by A2 Dominion
Winner of the Micro Business Award sponsored by Bicester Vision, Bicester Chamber & The Wednesday Business Club
“Winning both New Business and Micro Business Awards has been the most amazing experience. The application and judging process gave us an opportunity to look back at what we have achieved over our first year. The Awards night was a wonderful opportunity to network with Cherwell Businesses and share their successes. After an amazing evening, our proudest moment was returning to the café, with the awards and sharing them with our customers who have embraced them as their own personal achievement.
We are so proud to have received these awards and incredibly grateful for the support and recognition from the Cherwell Business Community.”
Lorraine Fare, Owner, Savoir Fare
Winner of the Retail Award sponsored by Bicester Village
“It was a great honour to receive an award during what was an inspiring, and at times emotional, evening. We came along proud that we had been nominated and never really expecting to win. At a time when the high street, especially in Bicester town centre, is receiving bad press we hope that us winning this award shows that every day people can set up independent shops and succeed. As long as you have a vision, a passion and a hunger to keep trying it can be done.
A very proud night for us. A reward for all the hard work and even if it makes just one more person think about setting up thier own shop then that would be great.
Thank you all involved and everyone who has shopped with us for 7 years.”

Winner of the Small Business of the Year Award sponsored by OxLEP
We are absolutely thrilled that we’ve won the Small Business of the Year Award sponsored by The Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership. It was an honour to receive this award and I would like to personally thank the judges for recognising all the hard work my team and I have put into Shared Beauty Secrets to make it what it is today. Running a business is never easy but you suddenly look back and see how far you have come and the difference you have made. In our case it was discovering the wellness benefits of the Lava Shells Massage and its revolutionary advantages to the beauty and spa industry. From the shores of the Philippines to over 2,000 spas and salons, we’ve come a long way! With an ever-growing high profile amongst celebrities, and influencers, including Sir Richard Branson, Millie Mackintosh and Ellie Goulding, our brand continues to go from strength to strength.
Being recognised in Awards like this makes running a business even more worthwhile and certainly encourages me and my team to continue to strive for excellence in all we do. Thank you to the Cherwell Business Awards for a fantastic and fun evening, one we will all remember for a long time.
